From all the research I have done, and the pet nutrition classes I took from Katie K9, my opinion certainly changed. I believe the products listed below are some of the WORST kinds of food you could be feeding your pet.
Unhealthy Food Choices
Alpo • Beneful • Diamond • Eukanuba • Hill's Science Diet
Iams • Kibbles 'n' Bits • Pedigree • Purina • Royal Canin
A+ Flint River Ranch gives a good description of what's really in low quality pet food.
It'll shock you! I know it did me... Here are some of the ingredients better known as fillers: corn (GMO), soy (GMO), feathers, weeds, straw, corn cobs and meat-by-products. The list goes on.
Here is a list of some high quality food, and you'll be surprised at the cost, there's not much difference, if any. Also, you don't have to feed your pet as much food because there is more nutrition and no filler ingredients. If you can, feed an all raw diet. You won’t believe the results!
Healthy Food Choices for Dogs
You can rate your pet's food at Dog Food Analysis. Scientists give detailed reviews about the ingredients in your dog's food. Some of it may surprise you.
Are you feeding your cat dry food? Think again!
Did you know that cats were once desert animals and derived their water through their prey?
Cats are chronically dehydrated if they are only fed dry food. Cats are carnivores
and were never meant to eat high-carbohydrate diets. Dry diets are too high in carbohydrates. Veterinary Partner has a lot of information on what to feed you cat
and it all comes back to canned food. Yes, canned food is best!
Healthy Food Choices for Cats
I go to Chuck and Don's Pet Food Outlet located at 3246 West Lake Street in the Calhoun Village Shopping Center near Lake Calhoun and it's conveniently located across the street from Whole Foods. Ask about Chuck and Bucks rebate program where you can save money. They also have food for cats and other pets.
Woody's Pet Food Deli on 50th and Xerxes, is also an excellent place to buy your pet's food.
Remember to gradually change your pet's food over a two week period by adding a little more of the new food every couple of days, and less of the old food. You'll have a much healthier and happier dog in the long run and you'll save on vet bills! And being an animal lover like myself, I know you want what's best for your pet.
