What kind of food are you feeding your pet?
Before I got my puppy I did tons of research on the best kind of dog food and was surprised to find out that some of the popular brands of food I thought were good were actually really bad for dogs.
From all the research I have done, my opinion is the brands listed below are some of the WORST kinds of food you could be feeding your pet.
Alpo
• Beneful
• Diamond
• Eukanuba
• Hill's Science Diet
Iams
• Kibbles 'n' Bits
• Pedigree
• Purina
• Royal Canin
The following information I found at www.www.aplus-flint-river-ranch.com. This site gives
a good description of what really is in low quality pet food.
Many commercial pet foods contain fillers that have little or no
nutritional value. Products like corn and corncobs, cereal by-products,
feathers, soy, cottonseed hulls, peanut hulls, citrus pulp, screening,
weeds, and straw are often included as inexpensive fillers or low-grade
fiber content.
These fillers are added to help lower
the overall cost of the food, especially when pet food manufacturers
attempt to keep their pet foods at a certain price point despite rising
manufacturing, marketing, shipping, and related costs.
A rather ironic result has resulted in rare cases, though, where
toxins in unnecessary fillers have led to massive recalls at huge
expense to the pet food companies. Two recent examples are aflatoxin on corn in the 2006 Diamond Pet Food Recall and melamine on wheat gluten and rice protein concentrate, or rice gluten, fillers in the 2007 Menu Foods Pet Food Recall that included Hill's, Royal Canin, Natural Balance, Iams, Eukanuba, Purina, and Nutro brands (among others).
Now here is a list of some
high quality food and you'll be surprised at the cost, there's not much difference, if any. Many times the cost is lower! Also, you don't have to feed your pet as much food because there is more nutrition and no filler ingredients. If you can, feed an all raw diet. You won’t believe the results!
Taste of the Wild • Wellness Core • Stella & Chewy’s Raw Diet • Fromm • Instinct Innova • Blue Wilderness • Canidae • Merrick • Timberwolf • Solid Gold

I go to Chuck and Don's Pet Food Outlet
located at 3246 West Lake Street in the Calhoun Village Shopping Center near Lake Calhoun and it's conveniently located across the street from Whole Foods. Ask about Chuck and Bucks rebate program where you can save money. They also have food for cats and other pets.
Remember to gradually change your pet's food over a two week period, by adding a little more of the new good food every couple of days, and less of the old food. You'll have a much healthier and happier dog in the long run! And being an animal lover like myself, I know you want what is best for your pet. So go out there now and get your pet some high quality food!
